GFI Staff
The Chair of The Global Film Initiative is accomplished
corporate marketing executive, community organizer and long-time
public educator Susan Weeks Coulter. A former Peace Corps
volunteer, she began her public sector work as Executive Director
of Queen’s Bench Foundation, a criminal justice education
foundation, and in the development and production of “Who
Do You Tell?”, an award-winning educational film. During
her fifteen subsequent years in the financial services industry,
she has continued her involvement in media education and research.
Santhosh Daniel is Director of Programs. Before coming to The Global Film Initiative, Mr. Daniel worked as a public relations and marketing consultant in the arts, entertainment, health and technology sectors, and in scholarly book-acquisitions for academic and university presses. Mr. Daniel also has extensive experience as a writer and editor for web-based arts and culture publications, and has collaborated with writers, visual artists and filmmakers on projects in the United States, India and Mexico. He has a B.A. in English from the University of Washington, and a M.F.A. in English from the University of Iowa.
Chris Wiggum, Director of Public Relations and Business Development, has extensive public relations experience in the independent film and film festival industry. He has developed publicity campaigns for Sony Pictures Classics, IFC Films and the Mill Valley Film Festival, and secured media placements for film festivals and distributors in outlets such as the New York Times, NPR and PerezHilton.com. Prior to joining the Initiative, Mr. Wiggum worked at the boutique publicity agency Larsen Associates, and at the Independent Television Service (ITVS). Mr. Wiggum graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in Comparative History of Ideas and Communications.
Lisa Hasko is the Director of Education and Online Development. Prior to joining GFI, Ms. Hasko managed the online independent and world cinema film lending library, Film Connection, and other web-based and cultural initiatives for the international humanitarian aid organization Mercy Corps. In addition, Ms. Hasko has a varied professional background that includes grant writing, fundraising, marketing and university-level teaching experience. She received a BS in Sociology and Political Science at Oregon State University and a MA in International Development and Gender at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England.
Benson Gilchrist, Global Lens Series Manager, began his career as a stage and screen actor, working on several short films and theatre productions. Before joining the Global Film Initiative, he worked in online publishing and as Associate Producer for the feature length documentary XXI Century—a 7-part documentary chronicling the post-9/11 anti-war Movement. Mr. Gilchrist graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Cultural Anthropology: Visual and Material Culture.
